Pogoy set to rejoin Gilas
ROGER Pogoy is set to join Gilas Pilipinas practice when the team reassembles in Manila.
It remains uncertain if he can make the trip to China for the next tuneup games.
“Nag-start na ako ng shooting and dribbling, pati weights,” said Pogoy, who missed Gilas’ European trip.
“Hindi ko pa alam (regarding China trip), pero pupunta ako ng practices,” added Pogoy, who has been training with TNT.
Gilas is set to see action in a pocket tournament in China from Aug. 2 to 6 against Iran, Lebanon and Senegal.
Gilas in high spirits
DESPITE injury setbacks, Gilas Pilipinas achieved its goals in the European trip, according to coach Chot Reyes.
The 59-year-old Reyes was particularly pleased with the defense, although he noted there’s much work to be done as the team prepares for the Fiba Basketball World Cup opening in August.
“The defense that we had from Game One to Game Six is already like night and day. All the work that we put in on perfecting our defense is starting to show,” said Reyes.
The Philippine team, which ended its European stint with a win over Lithuania’s World University Games team, returned to Manila on Monday and will regroup on Thursday before leaving for China for the next tuneup matches.
Ginebra, Meralco edge out TNT
Barangay Ginebra and Meralco advanced, while TNT fell short even as the three teams ended up with the same win-loss records in pool play of Leg 2 of the PBA 3x3 Season 3.
The Bolts and Gin Kings earned spots to the knockout round due to higher total points with 36 and 35, respectively, while the Triple Giga came up with 32.
San Miguel and guest team Wilcon Depot notched quarterfinal berths, bth getting 2-1 records in Pool B.
