Gilas update
Coach Chot Reyes and the Philippine team gear up for group play matches against New Zealand, India and Lebanon.
COACH Chot Reyes is still eager to see how a trio of Japan B.League imports would work as a Gilas backcourt unit even as one was ruled out of the Fiba Asia Cup.
Dwight Ramos has a leg injury and will not see action for the Philippines, a development announced just after Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas added Thirdy Ravena and Bobby Ray Parks to the lineup.
The three play for different clubs in the Japanese top flight.
“Maganda sanang makita how they will play together,” said Gilas coach Chot Reyes on Sunday.
“Unfortunately, hindi mangyayari yun sa ngayon. We have to wait some more time for that to happen.”
The Fiba Asia Cup is set July 12 to 24.
Reyes can still test player combinations later in the year as the Philippines, allotted a slot to the 2023 Fiba Basketball World Cup as co-hosts, is set to still play in the second round of qualifying starting in August.
