Road block for NLEX
The 33-year-old Simmons, who played for the San Antonio Spurs, Orlando Magic and Philadelphia 76ers in the NBA, has been training with NLEX but apparently has yet to get a Fiba clearance from his team in the Chinese Basketball Association on the eve of the Road Warriors' opener in the Governors’ Cup.
The Road Warriors are scheduled to face the Bossing at 3 p.m.
If Simmons is cleared to play, it will be likely for only four games as he is expected to return to China where a bigger offer awaits him.
Phoenix signs Jollo Go
JOLLO Go has signed with Phoenix as a free agent.
The guard out of La Salle, who was signed from the D-League last year by Blackwater, joins his former Batang Gilas coach Jamike Jarin, named interim coach at Phoenix after Topex Robinson’s departure.
"Pinag-try out ako sa Phoenix and suwerte naman na-sign," said Go, whose contract with Blackwater expired in December
Almazan on Qualls
RAYMOND Almazan said it wasn’t his intention to get into a verbal clash but Michael Qualls was talking trash even before the game.
Qualls’ energy was far from his performance in pre-tournament play, the Rain or Shine import going 3 for 22 in nearly 39 minutes of action in an 87-105 loss to Meralco.
Although he started strong, Qualls was never the same after the exchange of words with Almazan, which netted both players a technical foul.
“Before the start of the game ang dami niyang sinasabi sa bench namin, even sa mga coaches namin,” Almazan said. “Siyempre kung sino ang asar, talo. Ganun naman yun, di ba.”
