Gilas braces for game vs India
Gilas tries to bounce back from a 46-point loss to New Zealand.
THE Philippine men’s basketball team staff is set to discuss the composition of the squad for the Fiba Basketball World Cup Asian qualifiers game against India on Sunday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Carl Tamayo is a major concern as the UP Maroons star sprained his ankle in the endgame after leading Gilas in scoring in a 46-point loss to New Zealand in Auckland.
“I’m worried about Carl. I hope he is okay. We have to figure out what we are going to do for Sunday,” said Gilas program director Chot Reyes, who will join caretaker coach Nenad Vucinic in practice on Saturday.
All 11 players were fielded in the game against the Tall Blacks, with Rhenz Abando making is Gilas debut, while also seeing action were Francis Lopez, Dwight Ramos, Kiefer Ravena, Kevin Quiambao, SJ Belangel, Geo Chiu, Will Navarro, RJ Abarrientos and Dave Ildefonso.
Ginebra regains share of lead
Japeth Aguilar and the Gin Kings notch their fifth win.
BARANGAY Ginebra regained a share of the PBA Philippine Cup lead with a 105-89 victory over Converge on Friday at the Araneta Coliseum.
Scottie Thompson scored 24 as the Gin Kings notched their fifth win in six games, joining San Miguel Beer on top.
Japeth Aguilar had 20 points and 11 rebounds, while Standhardinger added 13 and 13 for Ginebra.
The Gin Kings took the big win in the first of four games without coach Tim Cone, who is join the Miami Heat staff in the NBA Summer League.
Richard Del Rosario is the Ginebra caretaker coach.
Allyn Bulanadi scored 16 while Abu Tratter had 13 points and seven rebounds for Converge, which suffered its fifth loss in seven games.
TNT makes it five straight wins
Mikey Williams sustains his solid play.
MIKEY Williams scored a season-high TNT 31 points as TNT routed winless Terrafirma, 114-86, on Friday.
JP Erram had 18 points and was a rebound shy of a double-double, RR Pogoy scored 15, Jayjay Alejandro added 11 markers and Jaydee Tungcab scored 10 as TNT improved to 7-2 for third spot behind San Miguel Beer and Barangay Ginebra at 5-1.
Terrafirma is winless in six games.
Joshua Munzon had 25 points, while Javi Gomez de Liano was the only other Dyip player to score in double figures with 12.
