Gilas vs Iran

THE Philippines faces familiar foe Iran on Thursday in the WUS International Basketball Tournament in Guandong, China.
Gilas Pilipinas, without Jordan Clarkson and Justin Brownlee, clash with the Iranians at 8 p.m. on Thursday at Jiangman En Ping Sports gymnasium before taking on Senegal on Friday.
“The thing we want is the experience of playing with great size. We know how tall, how big Iran is. We know how tall, how long Senegal is,” said coach Chot Reyes.
“This is going to be a great test not only for the bigs, but for the rest of the team,” added Reyes, who celebrated his 60th birthday also on Tuesday.
Scottie Thompson is also out due to an injury, and the team will be led by six-time PBA MVP June Mar Fajardo.
McDaniel, Eggesvik and Co. are back

MORE than half of the Philippine women’s football team are back in Manila after seeing action in the Women’s World Cup.
Olivia McDaniel, Sara Eggesvik and 11 other members of the 23-player squad arrived from New Zealand on Wednesday.
The Filipinas bowed to Switzerland, 0-2, before scoring the country’s first-ever victory in the World Cup, a 1-0 win over New Zealand.
Norway dashed the Philippines’ hopes of advancing to the Round of 16 with a 6-0 win.
