Big boost for Gilas

GILAS Pilipinas came up with a fine performance in Kaunas, scoring a 125-102 victory over Lithuania’s Universiade squad.
June Mar Fajardo scored 28, while Justin Brownlee added 24 points as Gilas Pilipinas made it three wins in four tuneup games in Lithuania.
The Lithuanian team is preparing for the Summer Universiade later this month in China.
Gilas earlier swept its two-game tuneup with Ukraine’s under-20 team and bowed to a Lithuanian pro selection.
Dong Libed, 58

FORMER Letran Knights star Fernando “Dong” Libed passed away on Friday after a lingering illness.
He was 58.
Libed was an NCAA juniors MVP and went on to lead Letran to back-to-back seniors titles from 1986.
Libed was a second-round pick in the 1990 PBA Draft, 14th overall by Anejo Rhum, but never got to play in the pro league.
AJ Edu update

AJ Edu has started running with Gilas Pilipinas in practice and is expected to play soon.
The Cypriot-born Filipino big man suffered severe ankle sprain sustained in training in Australia ahead of Gilas Pilipinas’ European camp but has been doing well in camp, according to Dexter Aseron, chief therapist and strength and conditioning coach of the team.
However, Edu still sat out the Philippines’ tuneup game against the Lithuania team preparing for the Universiade.
