Batang Gilas advance to Asian Championship

THE Philippine youth basketball team made it two wins in two games in the Seaba qualifiers in Surabaya and earned a spot in the 2023 Fiba Under-16 Asian Championship in Doha.

Kieffer Alas had 18 points, eight rebounds and five assists as the Gilas Pilipinas youth squad overpowered Thailand, 85-49.

Kurt Velasquez scored 12 points, while Joaquin Ludovice had 10 points for Batang Gilas, who go for the Seaba sweep when it takes on host Indonesia on Wednesday.

The Asian Championship is set Sept. 17-24.

THE Jones Cup is back after a three-year hiatus and Rain or Shine will see action.

The tournament is set Aug. 12 to 20 in Taipei.

“We are honored not just to represent the PBA, but also the country in the Jones Cup. The high level competition will also help us to better prepare for the upcoming PBA season. We will give it our best shot and hope to bring honor to the country,” said ROS Board Governor and team manager Atty. Mert Mondragon.

Mighty Sports won the 2019 Jones Cup before the COVID-10 pandemic shut down sporting events.

ALMOND Vosotros returned to nail the big shots as TNT regained the top spot in the PBA 3x3 on Tuesday after a disappointing early exit just a week ago.

The Triple Giga downed Pioneer, 17-13, in the Leg 3 final at the Ayala Mall Manila Bay.

Vosotros was not on the squad, while Samboy de Leon got hurt in Leg 2 when TNT fell short of the knockout stage.

In the battle for third place, Cavitex edged out San Miguel Beer, 20-19.
