MIKEE Cojuangco-Jaworski will arrive in the country on Friday afternoon, fresh from attending the 125th session of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) where she was officially elected as member on Tuesday night.
Cojuangco-Jaworski is arriving on an Emirates Airline flight at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport 1 from Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Expected to welcome her at the airport are the country’s top sports officials led by her father Jose `Peping’ Cojuangco, president of the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC ), and Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chairman Richie Garcia.
Cojuangco-Jaworski got 79 out of 97 votes cast during the proceedings, allowing her to join eight others who have also been included in the IOC membership.
The lovely 39-year-old equestrienne is also expected to take the place of Frank Elizalde as the IOC representative to the Philippines after Elizalde retired last year.
Cojuangco-Jaworski won a gold medal in the 2002 Asian Games in Busan, Korea and several more in the Southeast Asian Games. She is married to former PBA player Dudut Jaworski.
Also elected as IOC members were Kenyan legendary runner Paul Kibii Tergat, former Swedish Olympic long jump champion Stefan Holm, United States Olympic Committee president Larry Probst, Russian Olympic Committee president Alexander Zhukov, Camiel Eurlings of The Netherlands, Dagmawit Girmay Berhane of Ethiopia, Bernard Rajzman of Brazil, and Octavian Morariu of Romania.
