NCAA Management Committee (Mancom) chair Fr. Vic Calvo of host Letran said NCAA Season 96 is being considered a "special season" that won't be counted against players years of eligibility.
"Ngayon, not counted," he said on Tuesday's online Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum.
The league is relaxig eligibility rules due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with seniors getting an extra playing year in their careers.
The NCAA is looking at holding online events this season, which is poised to start by the first week of May.
Online chess and taekwondo, including poomsae, are among the sports which are assured to be held this athletic year.
The league is also exploring on staging "skills-based competitions" for its flagship events like basketball and volleyball as it opts to hold virtual and stay-at-home events.
"Ang focus natin for the meantime is nasa Season 96. Wala pa tayong usapan regarding sa Season 97," he said.
