COMMISSIONER Ramon Fernandez of the Philippine Sports Commission assured that the athletes and coaches will be receiving their monthly allowances soon following recent delays in its release that already reached Sen. Bong Go.
Fernandez said the delays in allowances have already been addressed by the PSC, which could be available as early as Monday.
Fernandez said the delay is attributed to the coronavirus pandemic, but the problem has already been addressed as early as last month with the help of Landbank, which releases the allowances of athletes from the government.
The PSC commissioner also said a Landbank employee also tested positive of COVID-19 recently, further delaying the processing of the allowances.
“Third week of July, inaayos na ‘yan. Had to redo payroll computations and coordination with Landbank on payroll system but all of a sudden, nag-lockdown sila for two weeks at may nag-positive na employee nila,” said Fernandez.
“But hopefully, release na siya by Monday,” Fernandez said.

Go recently issued a statement saying that he is receiving reports that the monthly allowances of athletes and coaches for the month of June and July were delayed.
Go, a close aide of President Duterte, also called the attention of the PSC to address the situation, while also offering to help the government sports agency in his capacity as the chairman of the Senate Committee on Sports.
“We are in the middle of a pandemic and everyone is having difficulty. Our athletes and coaches who bring honor to our country are no exception. Alam kong hirap din kayo sa inyong mga pondo dahil sa mababang remittances mula sa Pagcor. Nabawasan na nga kamakailan ang kanilang mga monthly allowances, sana huwag naman ma-delay pa,” Go said.
