FOR its long involvement in various sports and civic organizations and its dominant showing during the 2016 Jones Cup, Mighty Sports has been honored by the Philippine Sportswriters Association during its recent Awards Night at the historic Manila Hotel.

Amateur basketball, junior golf, and futsal are just some of the sports Mighty Sports have supported – not to mention carving out a niche of its own in international basketball arena.

“We are deeply touched with the recognition conferred to us by the prestigious media organization,” said Mighty Sports co-team owner Alex Wongchuking. “This recognition will further inspire us to help the needy but talented athletes.”

“The Mighty Sports family won’t waver in our support of the country’s grassroots programs, and we are willing to do our own share in helping win the country’s first Olympic gold,” added Wongchuking.

But Mighty Sports’ bid for a golden sweep in the Merlion Cup in Singapore in the same year was foiled by Shanghai, 78-77, no thanks to three charities given to the Chinese club with no time left.

Among the schools and organizations it has helped are Xavier School, University of the Philippines in the UAAP, College of St. Benilde in the NCAA and the PBA Press Corps.

Mighty Sports started to create “noise” when it reigned supreme in club tournaments, including the Philippine Commercial Basketball League in 2013 and the Bulacan-based Republica Cup.

Mighty Sports was one of 27 personalities and entities who received citations from the oldest media organization in the country.
