MERALCO forced a three-way tie for the lead after an easy, 25-17, 25-8, 25-14, win over Team Baguio on Sunday in the Shakey’s V-League Season 12 Open Conference at The Arena in San Juan.
The Power Spikers scored their second win in as many matches, joining Cagayan Valley and PLDT Home Ultera on top of the standings.
Abi Marano scored 14 points, Cha Cruz added 10 and Fille Cainglet-Cayetano chipped in with nine as the Power Spikers continued to show improved play after a winless campaign in last year’s foreign Reinforced Conference.
“Masigla na naglalaro ang team and unti-unti nang nagji-jell ang team,” said Meralco coach Brian Esquibel.
Meralco needed only 67 minutes to finish the match, but Esquibel downplayed their victory over the Baguio selecion.
“Hindi ko naman sinasabi na mahina ang Baguio pero mas lamang lang ang team Meralco sa experience kasi ang composition ng team ko mga superstars sa collegiate level,” he said.
Krissian Tsuchiya and Jhiesel Agudia each had six points for Team Baguio, which remained winless in three games.
