SISTERS Liaa Margarette and Lora Micah Amoguis bagged three gold medals on Wednesday in the swimming competitions of the 2019 Batang Pinoy Mindanao leg at the Davao del Norte Sports and Tourism Complex in Tagum City.
Liaa copped the girls’ 12-under 100-meter butterfly and 200-m individual medley gold medals, while Lora captured the girls’ 13 to 15 200-m individual medley gold to gain a slot in the national finals of the competition in October.
Lora, 11, from The Abba’s Orchard School, clocked one minute, 11.2 seconds in the 100-m butterfly, and 2:39 in the 200-m individual medley.
The 13-year-old Lora timed 2:35.06 in the 200-m individual medley, while also winning the silver medal in the 13 to 15 50-m backstroke.
“My dream is to beat the Palarong Pambansa record,” said Liaa, who won six gold medals in the Davao Region Athletic Association meet last week.
“We motivate each other,” said Lora. “When she feels down, I motivate her. When I feel down, she motivates me as well. That’s how close we are. I’m excited to play in the national finals and race against other swimmers. Even though there are swimmers from other regions, my goal is not to win medals. I just want to beat my time. That’s it.”
John Carlo Loreno of Koronadal claimed five gold medals in archery, winning the cadet boys’ 30-meter, 40-meter, 50-meter, 60-meter and single Fita events.
