DAVAO City won the overall title in the 2019 Batang Pinoy Mindanao leg that ended on Saturday in Tagum City.
Davao City scooped 56 gold, 39 silver and 58 bronze medals on its way to the overall championship of the event organized by the Philippine Sports Commission and Davao Del Norte province.
The Davaoenos won 17 gold medals in swimming with sisters Liaa and Lora Amoguis leading the charge. They also won six in athletics, four in taekwondo and four in karatedo.
Davao City capped off the competition with gold medals in baseball after beating South Cotabato, while Wesley Magbanua won the 13-15 blitz boys in chess. Harlene Herbabuena and Janinah Panisales claimed the gold in the under-13 girls’ doubles.
Cagayan De Oro finished second in the medal tally with 33-23-42, with Lady Jane Payla (junior girls pinweight), Angelo Lofranco (junior boys pinweight), Jhasli John Illudar (junior boys light flyweight) and Rhein Jhon Gido (junior boys flyweight) winning gold in boxing.
General Santos City came in third with 27-33-31, while Davao Del Norte finished fourth with 24-25-24.
