GENERAL SANTOS CITY – Ashton Clyde Jose of Santa Rosa City, Laguna is another living proof that getting into swimming can be good for athletes dealing with asthma.

Jose was the first of nine record-breakers in Day One of the Batang Pinoy 2025 swimming competitions at the Acharon Sports Complex.

The 16-year-old clocked two minutes, 15.12 seconds in the boys 16-17 200-meter individual medley to shatter the previous mark of 2:15.58 set by Anton Paulo Dominick Della of San Fernando last year.

Jose said he only got into competitive swimming when he dealt with an asthma condition at the age of four years old.

“Kasi nung bata ako, may asthma ako. Nag-recommend ‘yung doctor na mag-swimming ako for my lungs para ma-work po. Nawala naman po pero tumuloy na ako ng mag-swimming,” said Jose.

Swimming opened a lot of doors for Jose, who is also competing fo Letran in the NCAA juniors division. He currently holds the Batang Pinoy record in the boys 14-15 200m IM with a time of 2:14:08 set when he was still competing for Taguig City.

In breaking a record, Jose admitted he failed to pace himself.

“Medyo pangit ‘yung start ko kasi sumobra ‘yung bilis ko. Napagod ako sa back end ko. Ang nangyari, mali mali ‘yung splits ko,” said Jose.
