UST coach urges Tigresses 'queens' Lastimosa and Tunay to earn their stripes

    Jul 14, 2015

UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas coach Kungfu Reyes is demanding more from his ‘queens’ Pam Lastimosa and Mela Tunay.

The newly installed coach of the Espana-based school has high expectations for the two veteran players, especially with Lastimosa and Tunay now in their final playing year.

“Dapat, sabi ko nga, sila na ‘yung reyna dito kasi sila na ‘yung nasa fifth year nila,” said Reyes.

The man who replaced Odjie Mamon in the UST hotseat said he has not yet to see his team step up, more so Lastimosa and Tunay, in the ongoing Shakey’s V-League Season 12 Collegiate Conference.

The Tigresses lost to an Alyssa Valdez-less Ateneo side on Sunday, 11-25, 25-27, 25-19, 20-25, as skipper Lastimosa finished with 14 points and Tunay with 11.

“Parang ganoon pa rin, kung paano ko sila napapanood sa mga nakaraang laro nila ganoon pa rin. May nagbago man pero ‘di pa namin nararamdaman,” he said.

“Hindi pa rin enough ‘yun. Dapat 15 up or 20, dapat ganoon ang mga puntusan nila,” Reyes added of his star pair.

Reyes also stressed that the tigresses are striving to win games in the V-League while trying to develop maturity in time for the coming UAAP season.

“Ang objective is to win,” he said. “Ine-emphasize ko lagi na ano ba tayo, ‘yung popularity o ‘yung maturity madevelop natin? Ang sagot naman nila maturity.”

UST tries to bounce back when it faces La Salle Dasmarinas on Saturday.
