KIEFER Ravena was among the participants when the Philippine Sports Commission opened its 2018 National Anti-Doping Summit on Wednesday.
Southeast Asian Regional Anti-Doping Organization director general Gobinathan Nair was one of the speakers on the first day of the three-day event attended by around 100 participants from national sports associations (NSAs), universities, colleges and local government units.
“The end goal really is to have a doping-free sporting community, “said PSC-Philippine National Anti-Doping Organization Head Dr. Alejandro Pineda,
Ravena was suspended by Fiba for 18 months after testing positive for three substances banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency.
“Education is key,” said Philippine Sports Institute director Marc Edward Velasco.
International Olympic Committee member Mikee Cojuangco, part of the education committee of the world Olympic body, noted the importance of educating the public, reinforcing the “play true, play fair, play clean” campaign of Wada.
“If we are not true, we will be destroying every reason why we are in sports in the first place,” explained Cojuangco.
