UNIVERSITY of the Philippines recovered from a slow start to turn back Philippine Navy, 18-25, 25-19, 25-22, 25-10, on Saturday in the opener of the best-of-three battle for third place in the V-League Season 12 Reinforced Conference at The Arena in San Juan.
Rookies Justine Dorog and Isabel Molde led the Lady Maroons with 18 and 17 points, respectively.
Kathy Bersola scored 13 and Nicole Tiamzon added 10 for UP.
“Ito ang purpose namin for joining ’yung exposure para hindi na sila rookies pagdating sa UAAP,” said UP coach Gerry Yee.
Bersola and rookie Sheena Mae Chopitea were named First and Second Best Middle Blockers, respectively.
“Good for them it’s a morale booster anytime you get an award nagkakakumpyansa ang mga bata pero we always tell them that it doesn’t end there,” said Yee.
The second match is set next Sunday.
Pau Soriano had 14 points, Lilet Mabbayad scored 13 and Florence Madulid added 10 markers.
