JOVELYN Gonzaga starred for title holder Far Eastern University anew, powering the Lady Tamaraws to a 25-20, 25-20, 25-19 victory over University of the Philippines on Sunday in the V-League Collegiate Conference at The Arena in San Juan.
Gonzaga, the guest player who helped tow FEU to the title last year, scored 19 points on 14 spikes, three blocks and two service aces as the Lady Tamaraws registered their fourth win in as many matches.
Toni Rose Basas scored 11 points and Bernadeth Pons added nine, while reinforcement Honey Royse Tubino also chipped in with nine markers.
FEU coach Shaq de los Santos stressed there are a lot of areas the Lady Tamaraws need to focus on, as they needed an hour and 19 minutes to finish the three-set win.
“Actually meron pa kailangan i-improve ang service errors and receive,” said the veteran mentor. “Pero attacks okay na, blocking at depensa ’di pa masyadong gumana.”
FEU dominated the attacking department, 43-23, and had more service aces, 8-3, although UP had more block points, 5-7.
Maria Lina Isabel Molde had nine points for UP, which suffered its second loss in four outings.
