HIDILYN Diaz, Eumir Marcial, and Yulo brothers Carlos and Karl Eldrew will be honored when the 2023 Batang Pinoy (BP) and Philippine National Games (PNG) formally open on Sunday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
About 18,000 athletes will be participating in the joint holding of the BP and PNG, the flagship grassroots competition of the government sports agency.
TOP ATHLETES GRACE OPENING
Diaz, Marcial, and the Yulo brothers will be feted, being once part of the BP and PNG competitions, with Karl Eldrew as the latest to make waves after capturing a total of 12 gold and two silver medals in the 2018 and 2019 editions combined.
“We are honored and thrilled to announce that some of the most iconic names in Philippine sports history will be gracing the opening ceremonies of the games,” PSC chairman Richard Bachmann said.
GAMES WILL HAVE 25 SPORTS
The Games, which has a theme ‘Sibol: The Rise of the New Athlete’, will have 25 sports that will run until December 22.
The BP and PNG also drew support from private sectors including Milo Philippines, Otsuka Solar-Pocari Sweat, Philippine Basketball Association, PLDT, Smart, Grab, Chooks-to-Go, and Shakey’s.
De La Salle, DragonSmash Makati, SM Mall of Asia, Ayala Malls, and PNVF Sand Courts also provided their facilities for the event.
“This collaboration is a testament to our commitment in nurturing the next generation of athletes. With the combined efforts of the PSC and our esteemed private partners, we are confident that the games will leave a lasting legacy, inspiring athletes and fans alike. As a former athlete, I am delighted with the overwhelming support from our private sectors in helping us elevate the playing field of our future national stars.”
