YENG Guiao is glad to chip in to Philippine sports after his petition for the Philippine Sports Commission to gain its rightful share in the earnings of the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation and the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Offices got a favorable decision from the Supreme Court last year.
Guiao was awarded with the Philippine Sportswriters Association President’s Award for his effort during his time as the Pampanga representative that the PSC get the full amount of five percent of Pagcor and PSCO earnings, instead of only half that has been the practice for many years.

The PSC stands to get billions from the landmark decision, which Guiao said will benefit the next generation of Filipino athletes.
“Sana po dumami pa ang Caloy Yulo. Dumami pa ang Hidilyn Diaz. Dumami pa ang mga Alex Eala. Dumami pa ang mga EJ Obiena. And I will be happy and satisfied that we've had a small part in that,” said Guiao during his speech on Monday night during the PSA Annual Awards Night at the Diamond Hotel.
Guiao said filing the case is his way of giving back to sports that has been good to him where he wore many hats from being a coach to an administrator.
“From my estimate… our athletes, our youth, our regular countrymen will benefit from around, if I’m not mistaken, a total of 37 billion in accumulated funds. And if I’m not mistaken, from 180 million a month to most likely closer to 500 million a month for Philippine sports,” Guiao proudly stated.
“This is my way of paying it forward. Sports has given me a good life. My family and I. It’s given me material things, wisdom and knowledge, great experience, and for me, the best way to pay it forward was just to take my effort and dedication to pursuing this case," he continued.
"Nagwagi po tayo. And this victory is a victory for athletes of the coming generation. It's a victory for our sports leaders. It's a victory for our countrymen in general."

Guiao urged the audience during the PSA Awards to also make a difference through their own way for the future generation of athletes.
“In a week, in a month’s time, in a year’s time, we will be forgotten. But that is not important because we did not do this to be remembered. We did this to be of service, whether we're forgotten or not. And we know we will be. But the satisfaction that is knowing that in our own small way, we have paid it forward," he shared.
“And we suggest we invoke our leaders and athletes to do the same. Make life a little better for those people coming after you. Make the athletes have a better chance of being successful. And give our countrymen a lot more to cheer about,” he added.
Guiao was presented with the trophy and was joined on stage by two persons that were also key figures in the filing of the case – lawyer Jun Guzman and former chief of staff Mon Navarra.
