THE Games and Amusement Board (GAB) is considering setting up a an anonymous hotline to monitor violators of health protocols for pro sports that are already allowed to resume workouts including the PBA.
GAB chairman Abraham ‘Baham’ Mitra said his office is willing to try the formula especially if it would help minimize or totally avoid violations of health protocols.
The idea is similar to the NBA hotline where players can anonymously report fellow players who are breaking health guidelines inside the bubble in Disney World in Florida.
“We will adopt that,” said the 50-year-old Mitra. “I will agree to putting up a hotline in case na magkaroon ng problema.”
The GAB chairman is even willing to give his own personal number as possible hotline so players and other personnel can directly report violators to him.
“Or puwede rin sa head ng medical (team) namin,” he added.
While the PBA doesn’t have the enormous and pricey bubble the NBA is maintaining to accommodate all participating teams and hold the games at the same time, the pro league will be maintaining a ‘closed circuit concept.'
Under the model, PBA players will have to strictly follow a daily routine of home-gym-home once the workouts start.
Commissioner Willie Marcial previously said violators of the concept will be fined P5,000, higher for repeat offenders.
Meanwhile, violators of workout protocols – including the safety officer – are to be penalized P20,000, with the amount multiplying twice with every violations committed.
Mitra said GAB will likewise come up with the list of fines for violators within the week.
The government official understands that most of the players are young and sometimes, would be a little bit playful.
“You have to understand that the players are young, energetic, and siyempre may kaunti pang kalokohan,” said a smiling Mitra.
