THE Games and Amusements Board (GAB) urged teamwork among all professional sports in an effort for games, matches and bouts to push through amidst the pandemic.
In a video conference with professional sports stakeholders, GAB chairman Baham Mitra said he is also looking forward to the day that leagues such as the PBA and the Philippines Football League, and combat sports resume amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
But in order for it to happen, Mitra said all professional sports must do their part in creating a safe environment for all the stakeholders during their practices and trainings.
“This is going to be a team effort,” said Mitra during the Kumustahan sa GAB online conference. “It’s not just going to be PFL, boxing, or PBA basketball. If something happens to football, damay tayong lahat. If something happens to boxing, damay tayong lahat. They might as well close sports. We have to be very, very, very careful.”

The Inter-Agency Task Force recently released the Joint Administrative Order of the Department of Health, GAB, and the Philippine Sports Commission for professional sports, with only trainings and practices being allowed in general community quarantine (GCQ) areas.
However, a provision states that low risk or modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) areas may already hold professional actual games and matches under strict health guidelines.
So far, Mitra is happy that the professional sector is sharing ideas and good practices as to how their respective sports will resume.
“I understand meron ng konting sharing. Some of the things that the PFL is doing, baka gawin ng PBA at ‘yung mga magagandang proposals ng PBA, pinakikinggan din ng PFL at ganun din ang boxing,” said Mitra.

Mitra said the GAB will be strictly monitoring the conduct of practices of professional sports.
“The GAB, DOH, and hopefully, the PSC, will be there during your first practice so that we can inspect the era. Siyempre ‘yung medical staff will be at the forefront to make sure that it is set correctly from the start and it will be maintained,” said Mitra.
“Thankful talaga tayo na napagbigyan tayo kahit may mga numero pa na tumataas,” he said.
