    Northern Territory fights back from 22 down to beat Philippines in Arafura final

    DARWIN, Australia – Northern Territory Top End overcame the Philippines, 111-100, in overtime to take the gold in the 2019 Arafura Games basketball at the Darwin Convention Centre.

    The Filipino cagers led by as many as 22 points but couldn’t recover from a late rally by the home side, settling for silver medal in front of a crowd of mostly Australia-based Filipinos.

    The Philippines was up by six points, 93-87, but NT rallied, with Ben Streeter hitting his second straight three-point shot with 43.9 seconds left in regulation to tie the game and force overtime.

    It was all NT from there as it broke a 98-98 deadlock with 13 straight points in the extra period.

    Jorem Morada finished with 23 points and converted six triples, while Bon Bulac scored 19 points including three free throws that put the Philippines ahead, 71-49, in the third quarter, the biggest in the match.

    But the Aussies finished the third quarter strong, cutting the deficit to 12 points, 79-67, heading into the fourth.

    Leomer Losentes had 19 points and 11 rebounds, while Conrad Fernando chipped in 16 points and 10 rebounds for the team featuring an all-Mindanao lineup.

    The Philippines swept the group stage with a 3-0 record, before going 1-1 in the playoff round to secure a place in the championship game.

    Austin Hill and Fred Williams each had 28 points for NT.
