DARWIN, Australia — Team Philippines arrived here on Wednesday for the 2019 Arafura Games, which will be held from April 26 to May 4.
A total of 91 athletes and 25 coaches from nine sports touched down in this Australian city in a Philippine Airlines chartered flight from Manila.
The athletes were welcomed by Filipino volunteers based here led by consul general John Rivas as well as Games mascot Milula.
The Filipino athletes will be competing in athletics, badminton, basketball, beach volleyball, boxing, muay, sepak takraw, swimming and weightlifting.
The Filipino athletes competing here are a mix of national and developmental pool team members and top performers in the Batang Pinoy, Philippine National Games and the Palarong Pambansa.
The Arafura Games will formally open on Friday at the Darwin Waterfront with a fireworks display set to cap the evening before hostilities begin on Saturday.
