HARD work and a good game plan worked wonders for Filipina duathlete Mirasol Cabelenio Abad as she took home the silver medal in the Powerman Duathlon Asian Championships in Putrajaya, Malaysia over the weekend.
Abad finished with a time of three hours, 23 minutes and 39 seconds to finish runner-up in the Elite Female category. She was over four minutes behind champion Radka Vodickova of the Czech Republic and ahead of bronze medalist Jacqueline Uebelhart of Switzerland.
Last year, she finished in fifth place in the in the annual 11.4km run, 64km bike, 11.4km run event.
In the Elite Male category, three Filipinos made it to the top 10 in a field that includes world-class duathletes.
John Chicano finished in sixth place with a time of 3:04:34, while teammate Robinson Estevez finished seventh with a clocking 3:09:48, and John Valdez was ninth with 3:22:00.
The national duathletes are currently training for the Century Tuna ASTC Asian Duathlon Championships, which serve as qualifier for the 2013 World Games.
