FOUR Olympians led by pole vaulter EJ Obiena have been nominated for the Philippine Olympic Committee Athletes’ Commission ahead of the election on January 27.
Obiena was nominated along with boxer Nesthy Petecio, shooter Jayson Valdez, and swimmer Jessie Khing Lacuna for the Athletes Commission, whose five members serve as the consultative and advisory body of the POC.

Nominated as well were Jack Animam of basketball, Inna Palacios of women’s football, Amparo Acuna of shooting, John Chicano of triathlon, Kai Stroem of rugby sevens, and Jian Miguel Bautista of fencing.
The election will be held on January 27 at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.

Petecio and Lacuna are seeking another term after being part of the previous Athletes Commission that included Tokyo Olympics gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz, Nikko Huelgas of triathlon, Cheska Altomonte of softball, Samuel Morrison of taekwondo, and Jake Letts of rugby.
Lacuna was the vice chairman during the previous term from 2020 to 2024.
