Doc confirms Lady Eagles rookie Kat Tolentino out six months with ACL injury

    Jul 15, 2015

DOCTORS have confirmed that Ateneo's Kat Tolentino has suffered an ACL injury during a freak warm-up accident over the weekend  that could keep the Lady Eagles rookie out for at least six months.

The 6-2 Fil-Canadian hurt her right knee after an awkward landing ahead of her debut for the Lady Eagles in the Shakey's V-League Collegiate Conference on Saturday and an MRI performed on Wednesday night confirmed orthopedic surgeon Raul Canlas' fear that she tore an ACL.

Tolentino will have an appointment with Canlas on Thursday to determine the schedule for surgery.

“ACL (ang injury ni Tolentino), bukas mag-uusap kung kailan pwedeng operahan,” confirmed Lady Eagles team manager Tony Boy on Wednesday afternoon.

But Liao is hopeful Tolentino, who was ranked among the Top 10 volleyball players in the Vancouver area prior to joining the Lady Eagles, will still be able to play in the UAAP women's volleyball tournament set in January.

“Aabot pa rin ‘yan kasi may second round pa,” he said. “She’ll be ready to play in the second round, ila-lineup pa rin namin siya.”

The Ateneo sports official also said that although Tolentino injured her left knee, it was her in right knee that she felt was dislocated right after she fell on the court.

“Right foot pagbagsak, parang naghiwalay ang tuhod,” said Liao. “Ang may tama ang kaliwa pagbaba niya ang kanan niya parang feeling niya parang naghiwalay.”
