COURTNEY Jewel Trangia ended her Batang Pinoy career by winning a third straight gold and a new meet record in the girls’ discus throw on Sunday in Puerto Princesa City.
The Masbate native threw 38.30 meters at the Ramon V. Mitra Sports Complex, following up on her gold medals in the same event in 2022 in Vigan City and 2023 in Manila.
Fitting farewell
Now 17, Trangia is in her final year in the Batang Pinoy and she finished it with style by shattering the old record of 37.17 she herself set in Manila.
“Last Batang Pinoy ko na po ito kaya malungkot at masaya po ako na iiwanan ko ang bago kong record dito,” said Trangia, who is also leave for Kota Kinabalu for the Malaysia Open 2024 that also began on Sunday.
Tarlac’s Rich Justin Torres, who at 13 already stands 5-foot-10, won in the boys’ shotput Under-16 with a throw of 12.16m.
Arvin Taguinota of Pasig began his quest to repear his three-gold performance in last year’s Batang Pinoy by claiming the boys 12-13 200m individual medley with a time of two minutes, 22.02 seconds.
