Cebu IX faces Manila in grudge rematch

    Jun 16, 2012

Cebu and Dumaguete, already assured of the top two spots in the semifinals, try to build momentum for the final four when they battle separate foes on the final day of the elimination round on Sunday in Baseball Philippines Series 9 at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium.

The Dolphins eye their 12th win in 15 games when they face the defending champion Manila Sharks in a rematch of the Series 8 title series at 10:30 a.m.

The Uni-bikers, eyeing their 11th win in the tournament, face playoffs-bound Alabang Tigers at 1:30 p.m.

In the other game, the Batangas Bulls and the Taguig Patriots try to avoid slipping to the bottom spot when they face off at 7:30 a.m.

The Dolphins and the Uni-bikers will have twice-to-beat advantage in the semifinals set June 24.

Focus will be on the Cebu-Manila match-up as the Dolphins try to go for a sweep over the Sharks, who captured the Series 8 crown at their expense via sweep.

Cebu swept their doubleheader assignment last June 10 at the Clark Freeport Zone Parade Grounds in Pampanga with the Dolphins nipping Dumaguete, 7-6, to cement the top spot.

Dumaguete also clinched the twice-to-beat advantage in the semis after routing Batangas, 11-5, in the back end of their doubleheader.
