THE Billiard Sports Confederation of the Philippines (BSCP) is inclined to send Carlo Biado to next year’s Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games following his victory in the US Open Pool Championship over the weekend.
BSCP president Robert Mananquil said the federation is looking at the possibility that Biado will no longer go through the national elimination phase for spots in the AIMAG which will be held from March 10 to 20 in Bangkok and Chonburi.
Mananquil said 9-ball for men and women’s will be the only events for cue sports in the AIMAG.
“I was called by (POC president) Bambol and we are only given one event – 9-ball in the AIMAG – in March in Thailand. And we are allowed only two players each, men and women. Alam ni Carlo na magkakaroon ng elimination diyan although with his records, tignan natin,” said Mananquil during Tuesday’s Philippine Sportswriters Association Forum.
Carlo Biado
Biado is fresh from becoming only the second Filipino since Efren ‘Bata’ Reyes in 1994 to win the US Open Pool Championship, where 256 players saw action in this year’s event held in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
Following his conquest, Biado expressed his desire to play for the national team again. He competed in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games where he bagged a bronze in the men’s 9-ball doubles with Johann Chua.
“Alam ko na may darating kaming event katulad ng SEA Games at AIMAG. Hindi ako puwedeng tumigil sa paglalaro. Kailangan mag-ensayo kami,” said Biado.
The SEA Games in Vietnam remains uncertain as organizers have been given an ultimatum on whether they will hold the Games in 2022 or cancel it due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
