THE Mindanao leg of the 2019 Batang Pinoy begins on Sunday at the Davao Del Norte Sports and Tourism Complex in Tagum City.
The opening ceremony will be at 3 p.m. to kick off the competition to be participated in by 729 athletes.
The top performers in the Mindanao leg of the Philippine Sports Commission-organized Batang Pinoy will advance in the national finals to be held in October in either Tagbilaran City or Ormoc City.
A total of 765 gold medals will be at stake in the eight-day competition for Mindanao athletes aged 15 years old and below.
The sports to be played in the qualifying legs are archery, arnis, athletics, badminton, baseball, basketball, boxing, chess, dancesport, futsal, karatedo, lawn tennis, pencak silat, sepak takraw, softball, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, volleyball and beach volleyball.
Davao City mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio will deliver the keynote address with PSC chairman William Ramirez, Education secretary Leonor Briones, and Interior and Local Government secretary Eduardo Ano attending.
Davao del Norte governor Anthony Del Rosario will deliver the opening remarks of the competition backed by STI College-Tagum and Alfalink Total Solutions Corporation.
