THE Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) was prompted to postpne the 2013 Batang Pinoy National Finals set next week in Bacolod City after more than 200 athletes were affected by typhoon `Yolanda' (Haiyan).
PSC commissioner Jolly Gomez said 151 medalists from Tacloban and 98 from Maasin in Leyte aged 15 years old and below who have clinched berths in the National Finals had definitely been affected by the super typhoon, forcing the government sports agency to reset the games originally scheduled from November 19-23 to possibly, February 5-9.
“Siguro gustong-gusto nilang sumali pero siyempre iniisip nila ‘yung pamilya nila, baka may mga kamaganak sila, and we have to take due note of that,” said Gomez.
The PSC official noted Bacolod is ready to stage the event but several athletes may have difficult time traveling to the host city due to the continous relief efforts being done in the Visayas region.
“Ready to host anytime ang Bacolod pero ‘yung logistics, baka medyo kulang pa,” said Gomez.
The PSC commissioner added the agency is in the process of informing the athletes and officials of the postponement as well as the possible rebooking of the flights to Bacolod.
