THE Batang Pinoy 2025 National Championship in General Santos City is set to be the biggest ever, according to the organizing Philippine Sports Commission.
PSC commissioner Bong Coo, who also serves as Batang Pinoy project director, said the multisport event for this year drew 19,075 athletes aged 17 years old and below from 191 local government units who will be competing across 27 sports.
Coo said 4,397 coaches and 1,241 officials also registered, bringing the total number of delegates that will converge to the 'Tuna Capital of the Philippines' to 24,713, the biggest according to the government sports agency.
“As project director, I'm proud to welcome you to what is shaping up to be our biggest and most exciting Philippine Youth Games... We are more than ready than ever. PSC will take charge,” said Coo during the official launch on Thursday at the Century Park Hotel in Manila.
PSC reiterates importance of grassroots
PSC chairman Patrick Gregorio, meanwhile, emphasized the importance of the Batang Pinoy, whose 2025 edition will be held from October 24 to 31.
“’Yung grassroots program will not happen without a Batang Pinoy that is well-funded, with a great program, hosted by provinces every year. Kapag tinuloy-tuloy natin ‘yan, maganda ang resulta for Philippine sports,” he said.

Like in previous editions, the overall champion in the Batang Pinoy 2025 National Championship to be held in General Santos City will receive P5 million and a trophy.
Cash prizes of P4 million, P3 million, P2 million, and P1 million will also be given to the next best four LGUs in the competition.
Gregorio said the prize money will go a long way to the LGU’s sports program and the grassroots development in general.
“We announced that the first place LGU gets P5 million. Para sa atleta nila ‘yan. ‘Yan po ay para sa sports program ng LGU. Kaya considerable ang amount. ‘Yung nanalong LGU deserves all the money and the support for the Philippine Sports Commission para tuloy-tuloy ang programa nila sa sports,” said Gregorio.
Pasig City topped the Batang Pinoy last year in Puerto Princesa City by amassing 105 gold, 64 silver, and 116 bronze medals.
The PSC also revealed that the most bemedalled athlete of the entire competition in both boys and girls division will also receive trophies.
