BARANGAY Buhangin defeated Barangay Hizon, 18-5, on Saturday in the 3-on-3 basketball final of the 2017 Mindanao Children's Games at the Almendras Gym in Davao City.
Buhangin victory highlighted the closing day of the children's games on Saturday.
In other events, Barangay 76-A ruled the girls volleyball tournament, while Barangay Bantol won kadang, Baguio Proper ruled the sack race and Indangan won Maria Went To Town.
Winners of the games took home cash prizes, snacks, and school supplies, while all participants received loot bags.
Chairman William “Butch” Ramirez of lead organizer Philippine Sports Commission was pleased with the success of the event held to encourage kids in the region to get into sports.
"I encourage you to study hard so that you can reach your dreams, see new places, and learn different languages. Involve yourselves into sports to earn discipline and fortify your mind and bodies," said Ramirez, adding that young athletes can help show that peace prevails even with Mindanao under Martial Law.
"There may be war in other countries and disorder in our own backyard, but we show everyone that peace reigns in Davao and in Mindanao," said Ramirez.
Children's games in other parts of the country are also being planned.
"More than the skills, it is developing interest in sports, which is more important," said Mindanao Children's Games volleyball tournament director Mohammad Ali Bernan.
