BAMBOL Tolentino announced he’ll be running for the top post of the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) when the sports body holds a special election on July 28.

The concurrent chairman of the country’s Olympic body made the disclosure in a special press conference at the Golden Bay Restaurant on Thursday.

“Yes, yung lang yata ang hinihintay ninyo,” said Tolentino emphatically when asked if he will be seeking the presidency of the POC. “Yes I will para matapos na ang lahat ng ito once and for all.”

At the same time, Tolentino, president of the Integrated Cycling Federation of the Philipppines (Philcycling), reiterated he’s still POC chairman, and as the highest official of the sports body, is the one empowered to oversee the special executive board meeting slated on July 8 and the general assembly scheduled on July 18 prior to the holding of another extraordinary general assembly for the elections of officers 10 days later.

“The special executive board meeting will be held at the POC office (in Philsports). The POC office is still there, I’m still the POC chairman, and I will still preside (over the meeting),” he stressed.

The executive board meeting and the two general assemblies are being held as per the directive of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

Tolentino is expected to be joined by members of the POC executive board during the Monday meeting, whether officially resigned or not.

“We will handle everything in a gentlemanly, civil, and sportsmanly manner,” said the POC chairman.

On who are the possible members of his slate, Tolentino said he’ll announce his lineup once the guidelines for the elections have been set.

About his possible running mate as chairman, Tolentino mentioned there are a lot who are very much qualified including taekwondo’s Robert Aventajado.

“Maraming available diyan, and he’s (Aventajado) one of those capable of being chairman,” he said.

He also mentioned the name of Manny V. Pangilinan, who was mentioned in an earlier report of offering himself for the position as chairman if only to help unite the Olympic body again.

“He’s offering to unite (the POC) as chairman, si Mr. Pangilinan. Si MVP para matapos na ito. Kaya lang baka hindi siya qualified under the extraordinary time,” added Tolentino.
