Aubrey Tom makes quite a splash with three swimming gold medals

AUBREY Tom took home three gold medals in the first day of swimming competitions of the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Batang Pinoy Luzon qualifying leg on Tuesday at the Isabela Sports Complex.

The 12-year-old Tom ruled the girls’ 12-under 200-meter individual medley, 100-m freestyle, and the 50-m backstroke in the event organized by the PSC for children aged 15 and below.

“Yes, I expected po na manalo. My coach told me to strike hard all the time so I could beat my time,” said the Grade 6 student from International Learning Academy.

“I have two more events and I plan to win them also. My goal after this is to win a gold in the Paralong Pambansa,” she added.

Tom timed two minutes and 37.95 seconds in the 200-meter IM, 1:04.24 in the 100-meter freestyle, and 34.20 seconds in the 50-meter backstroke. All times were more than two seconds faster than her closest competitor.

Micaela Jasmine Mojdeh of Parañaque City swept her first two events in the girls 13-15 200-m and 400-m individual medley, clocking 2:34.91 and 5:21.11 respectively.

In other events, San Jose, Nueva Ecija won seven gold medals in pencak silat while Baguio City garnered six in taekwondo.
