JAKARTA – The wushu team added a third bronze medal to the Philippines' tally in the 2018 Asian Games on Monday courtesy of Agatha Chrystenzen Wong.
Wong finished third in the women’s taolu with a score of 19.36, joining Lindswell Lindswell of Indonesia (19.50) and Moe Ueng Ying Juanita of Hong Kong (19.42) in the podium.
Wong mirrored the feats of the men’s and women’s poomsae team in taekwondo on a day that saw gymnast Caloy Yulo top the floor exercise qualifying round, making him the favorite to win a medal in Thursday’s final.
The relatively quiet day felt more like the calm before the storm as the 272-strong Philippine contingent got ready for important battles on Tuesday.
Day Three of the Asiad will se the men’s basketball team and women’s volleyball team playing crucial matches and Rio Olympians Hidilyn Diaz and Kirstie Elaine Alora as well as cross country cyclist Ariana Dormitorio going for gold in their respective events.
Elsewhere, Hagen Topacio finished sixth in the men’s trap final in Palembang while Jayson Valdez was 17th and Amparo Teresa Acuna 40th in the qualifying round of the 10m air rifle for men and women, respectively.
In tennis, AJ Lim and Jeson Patrombon and Marian Jade Capadocia failed to hurdle their respective rivals in round-of-32 matches.
In Subang, Lea Denise Farr and John Derick Farr finished sixth respectively in the women’s and men’s downhill in cycling.
Over at the Jakarta Convention Center, Samantha Catantan and Maxine Isabel Esteban could only get as far as the round-of-16 in the women’s individual foil in fencing.
Darlene Mae Arpon was unable to win a bronze medal in taekwondo after falling to Kim Jandi of Korea in the quarterfinal round of the women’s -67kg, 29-0.
Rhezie Aragon lost in the round-of-16 in the women’s -53kg, while Jenar Torrilos failed to advance past the round-of-32 in the men’s -58kg.
Nestor Colonia, meanwhile, finished seventh in the men’s -56kg while Elien Rose Perez took 11th spot in the women’s -48kg class in the weightlifting competitions held at the Jakarta International Expo.

In wushu also at the Jakarta International Expo, Thornton Quieney Lou Sayan finished 12th in the men’s nanquan.
The Philippine Blu Girls women’s softball team edged Korea, 5-3, and were playing China as of posting time at the GBK Softball field.
At the GBK Aquatics Center, Jasmine Alkhaldi placed seventh in the women’s 100m freestyle with a time of 56.29 seconds.
