VICTORIA Bossong brought an optimistic output in athletics after she ranked first in the heats of the women’s 800m of the 20th Asian Games at the Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium.
Bossong finished first in Heat 2 on Monday evening, and recorded the best time from the rest of the field with a clocking of two minutes, 2.34 seconds.

With her time, the 23-year-old Bossong, a Harvard product who only gained her eligibility to compete for the Philippines just last July, is expected to contend for the Asiad gold on Tuesday when pole vaulter EJ Obiena will also be in action.
Prior to the Asiad, the Fil-American recorded a personal best of 1:58.52 just last June in the women’s 800m, better than the Games record of 1:59.02 established by Margarita Mukasheva of Kazakhstan in the 2014 Asiad in Incheon.
Chunhui Li of China, silver medalist in the 1500m, submitted the second best time with 2:02.35.
