JULIANA Candelaria captured silver in women’s individual poomsae in her Asian Games debut, Thursday in the taekwondo competitions in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.

The 18-year-old Candelaria scored an average of 9.1300 after registering 9.200 in her first routine and 9.060 in her second.

Candelaria was the penultimate competitor and was running first, but her score was surpassed by final entrant Jung Haeun of Korea, who won gold after recording an average of 9.3100, scoring 9.320 in the first routine and 9.300 in the second.

Philippines' future in taekwondo

Candelaria, a Grade 12 student at De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde Senior High School, is one of the medal hopefuls of the Philippine team after she recently won a bronze medal in the 9th Asian Taekwondo Championship in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
