Stallions sustain late-season UFL resurgence with shutout win over Socceroo

    Jun 3, 2014

STALLION FC sustained its late-season resurgence in the United Football League as it blanked Socceroo, 2-0, on Tuesday night at the resumption of Division 1 play at the Emperador Stadium in Taguig.

Trying to find something to cheer about after getting deposed as champions, the Stallions brandished a resolute stand on the defensive end while drawing the offensive punch from Selu Lozano and Joevic Albino to beat the Division 1 rookies.

The Stallions thus avenged their 3-4 loss to Socceroo last March 13, incidentally, their last defeat, having gone 5-5-0 win-draw-loss since then.

In all, they now have nine wins, eight draws, and four losses to improve to 35 points, keeping a firm hold of fourth spot.

Socceroo, on the other hand, remained second to last in the nine-team standings with 16 points, but is safe from relegation with a 10-point lead over Division 2-bound Pasargad.

After his solid performance in the Asian Challenge Cup, Simone Rota was back on the horse, playing the whole second half where the defender wore the captain’s armband, although Azkals teammate Balot Doctora was left off the Stallions' lineup.

Despite missing Doctora’s offensive presence, the Stallions found the back of the net 32 minutes into the game when Lozano struck.

The seldom-used Albino, who came in the 75th minute, repaid coach Ernie Nierras’ faith as he sneaked in a goal a few moments before the referee blew the final whistle two minutes into stoppage time.
