THE Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) has formally submitted a letter informing the Indonesia Asian Games Organizing Committee (Inasgoc) about the Philippine men’s basketball team's withdrawal, a highly-placed source said.
The letter was submitted on Tuesday, said the person with knowledge of the situation, a day after the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) officially informed the POC about its decision not to send a team to the Indonesia Games.
The move dimmed any chance of the Philippine team competing in the 2018 Asian Games amid a growing clamor for the SBP to reconsider the decision.
On Tuesday during the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum, Philippine chef de mission Richard Gomez said it is not too late for the SBP to change its mind and send a team to Indonesia.
The pullout will only be formalized, according to Gomez, during next week’s delegation registration meeting in Jakarta.
