THE Philippines is assured of a medal in sepak takraw at the 20th Asian Games when the women’s doubles team clinched a semifinal berth at the Nagoya City Mizuho Park Gymnasium.
The squad of Nelly Jay Salon, Jean Marie Sucalit, and Abegail Sinogbuhan defeated Japan, 2-1, and India, 2-0, to clinch one of the two semifinal spots in Group B.

The sepak takraw squad still has South Korea on its schedule on Monday, but will remain in the top two regardless of the result.
The semifinals will be played immediately after the close of the group stage on Monday where the Philippines will face one of the teams in Group A.
The men’s regu team of Jason Huerte, Jom Lerry Rafael, Reynaldo Asilum, Glindel Phori, and Ronsited Gabayeron will also look to make it to the medal rounds as they play Japan on Monday.
In the Hangzhou Asiad, the men’s regu team claimed a bronze with basically the same team except for Asilum, who took the place of Rheyjey Ortouste.
