THE Senate Committee on Sports chaired by Sen. Bong Go will hold a public hearing on Thursday morning to evaluate the Philippines’ campaign at the 20th Asian Games.
The public hearing set at 8 a.m. will discuss various topics, in aid of legislation, including the recent campaign in the Asiad where the Philippines won four gold, nine silver, and 16 bronze medals for 17th place in the final tally.

The Senate said it will look into how it can help strengthen the Philippine sports program based on the results of the Asiad.
The committee hearing is also expected to discuss issues brought out by Sen. Erwin Tulfo during a privilege speech last September 14 related to the possible sanctions on Alex Eala for playing in the Asian Games instead of the China Open, a WTA 1000 mandatory competition.
The performance of Gilas in the Asiad was also included in the notice published on the Senate website. The men’s national basketball team failed to advance to the quarterfinals - three years after winning gold in Hangzhou in 2023.

The issue concerning volleyball is also expected to be tackled after Sen. Joel Villanueva cited the “lack of support for Pinoy Athletes” during his privilege speech last September 28.
Villanueva’s speech was in relation to a statement made by Alas Pilipinas Men player Bryan Bagunas during the Asian Games where the team failed to receive financial support to the point that they needed to borrow money from each other just so that they can go to their practices.
