Ladon gains flyweight quarters as PH finally scores win in Asiad boxing

JAKARTA – Rogen Ladon secured a berth in the quarterfinals as the Philippines finally won in the 18th Asian Games men’s boxing competition at the Jakarta International Expo.

Ladon dominated Nepal’s Prem Chaudhary on Monday with all five judges giving the bout to the Filipino Olympian in their men’s flyweight bout to move into the final eight.

He was the first Filipino pug to register a win after Joel Bacho, Mario Fernandez and Nesthy Petecio made early exits.

James Palicte and Irish Magno later also exited the tournament.

Palicte was dominated by Abdurasulov Shunkor with the Uzbekistan fighter winning on all scorecards in the their men’s lightweight round-of-16.

Magno was defeated by Pang Chol Mi of North Korea, 5-0, in the women’s flyweight round-of-16.
