JAKARTA – Rogen Ladon advanced into the semifinals of the men’s flyweight division of the 18th Asian Games after beating Kazakhstan’s Azat Mahmetov on Tuesday at the Jakarta International Expo.
Three of the five judges scored the bout, 29-28, in favor of the Filipino boxer, who is now assured of at least a bronze medal in the Asiad.
The 2016 Rio Olympian from Valladolid, Negros Occidental will be facing Yutapong Tongdee of Thailand on Friday with the winner moving into the gold medal bout.
A champion in this year’s Thailand Open, Tongdee beat Gan-Erdene Gankhuyag of Mongolia, 3-2, to move into the semifinals.
Two Filipino fighters will also be going for a sure bronze medal on Wednesday when light flyweight Carlo Paalam and middleweight Eumir Marcial face separate foes in the quarterfinal round.
