THE Philippines was defeated by Vietnam, 2-0, on Friday for its second straight loss in the 20th Asian Games men’s football tournament at the Nagoya City Minato Soccer Field.
The loss has likely eliminated the still-winless Philippines from quarterfinal contention as it now has a -6 goal difference after it was also defeated by Uzbekistan, 5-1, in its opening match in Group C.
The Philippines will close the group stage on Tuesday against Kuwait.

The PMNT U23 squad had a valiant effort to keep the match scoreless until the 74th minute where it conceded a goal to Nguyen Phi Hoang. The gap widened to two goals on a header by substitute Nguyen Le Phat in transition in the 86th minute.
The Philippines had a chance to tie the match in the 85th minute but a rebound by Santi Rublico in front of the goal went wide right.
