THE Philippines was thumped by Uzbekistan, 5-1, on Tuesday at the start of the 20th Asian Games men’s football tournament at the Nagoya City Minato Soccer Field.

The match got away from PMNT after a barrage of goals in the second half from Uzbekistan to start their return to Asian Games men’s football in 52 years on a sour note in Group C action.

PMNT, whose last Asian Games appearance was in 1974 in Tehran, later played with only 10 men after Gavin Muens was issued with a straight red card in the 48th minute.

The Philippines goes up against Vietnam on Friday in their next match.

Saidumarkhon Saidnurullayev scored the first of his two goals in the 60th minute to make it 2-0 following a Philippines miscue at midfield shortly after a John Lucero shot from inside the box hit the crossbar.

Josh Merino got the Philippines on the board in the 62nd minute, but Saidnurullayev scored a brace in the 71st minute.

Ruziboy Fazullaev (73rd) and Mukhammedali Remov (80th) followed to score goals to make it a blowout.
