    Pinoy athletes ready for action in Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Turkmenistan

    ATHLETES competing in the 2017 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games made a courtesy call at Malacanang a few weeks before the multisports competition starts in Turkmenistan.

    Athletes led by Rio Olympics weightlifting silver medalist Hidilyn Diaz and Southeast Asian Games gold medalists Samuel Morrison of taekwondo and Carlo Biado of billiards represented Team Philippines in the courtesy call with Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, who represented President Duterte.

    Also present were Kirstie Elaine Alora of taekwondo, Rubilen Amit of billiards, Mervin Guarte of athletics, and Eugene Torre of chess as they represent the 108 Filipino athletes competing for the September 17 to 27 multisports conclave in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.

    "The President expressed his full support and wished the athletes the very best in the competition," said Philippines deputy chef de mission Raymund Lee Reyes.

    The Philippines will compete in athletics, bowling, chess, track cycling, tennis, dance sports, billiards, muay, jujitsu, taekwondo, sambo, kickboxing, kurash, weightlifting, and wrestling.

    Several of the 108 athletes are also fresh from their campaign in the SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia just last month, among them are Rodolfo Reyes Jr., Dustin Jacob Mella and Raphael Mella in poomsae, Eric Cray and Marestella Torres-Sunang in athletics, Anna Clarice Patrimonio, Jeson Patrombon and Khim Iglupas in tennis, Chezka Centeno of billiards, and Ryan Jakiri of muay.
