NELLY Jay Salon, Jean Marie Sucalit, and Abegail Sinogbuhan clinched a silver medal after a straight-set loss to Vietnam, 15-8, 15-4, in the women’s double final of the 20th Asian Games sepak takraw competitions.
Nguyen Thi Khanh Ly, Le Thi Hong Lien, and Nguyen Thi Thu Trang showed supremacy with their all-around game especially in the second set where they ended the match with an ace at the Nagoya City Mizuho Park Gymnasium.
The women’s double silver is the highest finish of the Philippines since sepak takraw was introduced in the Asian Games in 1990.
The Philippines won against Japan, 2-1, and India, 2-0, and lost to South Korea, 2-1, to finish second in the group and clinch a spot in the medal rounds..
In the crossover semifinals, Salon, Sucalit, and Sinogbuhan defeated the team from Laos, 2-0, to reach the finals, a sure silver for the squad before the match against Vietnam.
